Optima Engineering provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection engineering services for Lumbee River EMC’s pioneering Net Zero Energy office building, one of the first fully realized net-zero energy office facilities in the region. The project demonstrated how high-performance building design and renewable energy generation can work together to produce as much energy as the building consumes annually, establishing a model for future sustainable development within the cooperative’s portfolio.

The completed facility incorporates a highly efficient building envelope, enhanced insulation, solar shading devices, Energy Star equipment, and low-energy LED lighting to minimize energy demand. A sophisticated building automation and battery storage system further optimizes performance by managing energy consumption and reducing peak demand. The success of the project reinforced Lumbee River EMC’s commitment to sustainable design and helped inspire the development of additional net-zero energy facilities within its service area.
